Only Watch 2017 : ARMIN STROM Manual Hunt Slonem Edition for Only Watch
Time for a good cause: for the Only Watch Auction 2017, ARMIN STROM is presenting a timepiece which breaks the boundaries between art and watchmaking. The modern Swiss art of watchmaking meets up with the expressive painting of American artist Hunt Slonem: a genuine work of art in two ways.
Great art in miniature
The ARMIN STROM Manual Hunt Slonem Edition for Only Watch comes in a titanium case with a diameter of 43.4 mm featuring the manually wound AMW11 calibre manufactured inhouse with off-centre time display and seconds subdial. Its openwork spring barrel benefits from a remarkable 5 day power-reserve. It goes without saying that the bottom plate and bridges are finely decorated and hand-engraved.
The dial side is a screen onto which Hunt Slonem’s contemporary art has been transferred. A composition of pastel hues and powerful lines continues the artist’s famous “bunny paintings” series. Together with the watch, the successful future bidder will be acquiring a hand-signed original which takes up the colours and motifs of the timepiece in a 46 cm x 31 cm format. For his work entitled “Rex”, the artist has used metal pigments in oil paint as the base for his characteristic linear styling.
Hunt Slonem and ARMIN STROM
Serge Michel, the art lover and proprietor of ARMIN STROM, has long been a fan of Slonem’s work. He was therefore delighted to acquire the world-renowned New York artist for this cooperative venture. The sought-after works which are currently on show in some 250 museums all over the world are created in Slonem’s Brooklyn studio. Apart from his interpretations of tropical fauna and flora, Slonem’s preferred subjects include those “bunny paintings” with which he sets the stage for the Chinese zodiacal sign of his birth year, the hare, and has been doing so since the early 1980s.
The Only Watch Auction
Serge Michel and Hunt Slonem were particularly keen to dedicate their work to the Monaco foundation, as they both emphasize: “We are proud of being able to make our contribution to research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy through this cooperation.” The Only Watch auction gives prestigious names in watchmaking an opportunity to put their expertise at the service of a good cause once every two years. At the last event of this kind record takings of 10.4 million euros were achieved. On 11 November 2017 all eyes will once again be turned on Geneva when unique timepieces by 49 watch brands will be presented in an exclusive auction.
